Collaborative Genealogy

Family Pursuit has created many new and exciting features for collaborative genealogy including a genealogy wiki, discussion boards, research projects, and research networking.
Imagine the possibilities of a truly collaborative genealogy website, working closely with genealogy researchers and family members to freely exchange ideas, share research conclusions, coordinate efforts, and even build relationships. Efforts would no longer be duplicated, tasks would be shared, and a greater excitement for genealogy would spread. Family Pursuit originated from this need to truly collaborate to accomplish family history and has developed a Community Tree to broaden the capabilities of genealogy collaboration.

Collaborative Genealogy in our Community Tree

Our Community Tree is a genealogy community constructed on a special genealogy wiki where users can freely collaborate by contributing facts, relationships and sources about ancestors. As users share information in our Community Tree, incorrect data can be disputed and disproved by the community by evaluating sources. When incorrect information is entered and proven wrong, any user can easily undo those changes.

As collaborative genealogy takes place, and changes are made within the Community Tree, users can easily discuss facts and timelines, and propose new theories by using our genealogy message boards. Each ancestor profile within our Community Tree includes a genealogy message board specifically created for that ancestor.

Our collaborative Community Tree also enables users to network with other genealogists as they discuss topics and share information. Networking can build cooperative relationships to begin assisting one another in research efforts

As users collaborate and discuss genealogy research they can easily receive notifications of changes and discussions. We have developed a Watch List system that works hand in hand with our Community Tree. Users may add the individuals they would like to keep track of to their watch lists. When changes are made, an email is sent and the user may log into Family Pursuit to view each new change.

Collaborative Genealogy in our Private Family Tree

Our Private Family Trees are designed for families and organizations to collaborate in an exclusive setting. These private family trees are also constructed on a genealogy wiki; however, only individuals who are specifically invited may view and contribute genealogy information to the family tree.

Family Pursuit also enables families and societies to coordinate genealogy research by creating research projects. Research projects allow users to organize genealogy research around a specific subject or goal. Within a research project, tasks can be created for accomplishing your research project objectives. Within each task, users can keep a research log of the entire research process.

Our private family trees also include our watch list system, allowing each member of the tree to receive notifications of changes and discussions.
