What is a Genealogy Message Board?Genealogy message boards are designed to allow users to freely discuss genealogy topics by posting messages back and forth. Messages posted on genealogy message boards are publicly visible to any user registered with the system. This open environment provides a forum for anyone to view full discussions and contribute new insight based on personal genealogy research. The Family Pursuit Genealogy Message BoardsMost genealogy message boards offer a generic forum for posting topics about any subject. With minimal organization, these forums can be difficult to navigate as topics of interest are intermixed with numerous, unrelated topics. Because Family Pursuit offers a Community Tree pedigree, our genealogy message boards are targeted to specific ancestors. Each ancestor profile within our Community Tree includes a genealogy message board specifically created for that ancestor. Targeted genealogy message boards direct conversations to specific topics allowing users to locate exact discussions without extensive searching. We have also included genealogy message boards within our section for coordinating genealogy research. This section allows users to bring family members together to assist in genealogy research. Including genealogy message boards provides tools for family members to discuss their findings as they keep research logs and complete tasks. Participation in genealogy message boards can build new connections between genealogists who have distant relationships. In this way users can network with other genealogists and continue working together in researching other related ancestors. As users continuously contribute to conversations to our genealogy message boards, they can easily receive notifications of new discussion posts. We have developed a Watch List system that works hand in hand with our Community Tree. Users may add the individuals they would like to keep track of to their watch lists. When new discussion posts are added, an email is sent and the user may log into Family Pursuit to view the new posts from the genealogy message boards. |
